
Head: Corporate Actuarial | Johannesburg and Cape Town
Job Purpose:
To prepare; perform; and analyse actuarial research and audits by collecting data from various databases and performing actuarial/financial calculations and design profitable products that meet actuarial requirements to ensure profitable growth for the company; and ensure that the company is sufficiently capitalised.
Job Responsibilities:
- Complete statutory financial returns as per legislative standard.
- Prepare Manco and Board meeting reports.
- Support and submit documents to the Actuarial and Underwriting Review Committee.
- Provide financial information as required by the company.
- Provide Actuarial information for June and December financial statements.
- Perform experience investigations.
- Ensure the business holds sufficient reserves and capital for Embedded Guarantees in line with the financial requirements.
- Conduct AIDS modelling to ensure products are profitable and appropriate reserve and capital are held.
- Perform Economics Capital and MCEV calculations in line with statutory and group requirements.
- Ensure appropriate modelling for business planning and assisting in business analysis and quants analysis activities.
- Ensure products are regularly monitored and experience investigations are done.
- Ensure compliance with various actuarial legislative requirements in line with accounting standards.
- Mitigate risk of loss-making products.
- Mitigate risk of insolvency.
- Ensure that the company’s Life is represented on various industry bodies.
- Build relationship with the statutory actuary bodies.
- Manage the relationship with our re-insurers.
- Ensure transformational target are met.
- Contribute to a culture of transformation by participating in the company’s culture building initiatives, business strategy, and CSI.
- Stay abreast of developments in field of expertise, ensuring personal and professional growth.
- Understand and embrace the company’s vision and values, leading by example.
- Lead organisational change initiatives.
- Ensure issues raised in culture survey are addressed.
- Deliver a world class service by ensuring a client centric culture.
- Identify areas of resource inefficiencies and promote optimisation through multi-skilling and addressing capacity gaps.
- Manage performance of direct reports and hold them accountable for managing the performance of their reports.
- Identify relevant development needs.
- Maintain a high performing team by identifying a talent pool through career conversations and using the talent grid principles and developing talent retention programmes.
- Build depth of skills and knowledge in the team of managers by sharing knowledge and insight.
- Ensure continuous improvement goals are achieved by creating an environment whereby self, managers and team are encouraged to challenge the status quo by initiating constructive debates about work practices.
- Professional Qualifications/Honour’s Degree
- Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees
- Bachelor of Science: Honours - Actuarial Science, Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees
- At least 10 years actuarial experience in the life and short-term industry.
- This role will be focusing on both Life and Short-Term products. (Chief Actuary)
